5 Reasons to be an Active Part of a Local Church

BLESSED (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather. But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night. And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity]. – Psalms 1:1-3 [Amplified Bible]

I believe the picture painted in this scripture holds a likeness of a believer who has planted his or herself, purposefully, within a local church, which is not just a representation of, but is an actual living demonstration of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  The Church is the Body of Christ!

The scriptures speak over and over again of the abundance of gifts that God has for our lives.  I believe that the greatest gift beyond the grace of salvation, is the gift of the local church!

Every good gift and every perfect (free, large, full) gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of all [that gives] light, in [the shining of] Whom there can be no variation [rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [as in an eclipse]. – James 1:17 [Amplified Bible]

The Path you walk, the Place you stand, and the People you surround yourself with not only effect your relationship with God, but also play an enormous role in the overall joy that you experience in life, the fulfillment of your hopes and dreams, the ultimate completion of your God-given purpose in life.  Here are 5 Reasons to “Plant” yourself in a local church, for me there are many more, but I believe these five will more than do!

  1.  It Positions You For Blessing

And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. – Hebrews 10:25 [NLT]

Many understand that obedience to God results in his ability to bless us, but do you understand that the Word of God directs us onto specific paths, and places and people because God has a blessing for us in them?

  1.  It Provides Godly Relationships

PATTERN YOURSELVES after me [follow my example], as I imitate and follow Christ (the Messiah).         – I Corinthians 11:1 [Amplified Bible]

It is simple fact, whether we like to admit it or not, we all are followers.  We all have people who influence us in our lives.  This influence effects changes into our lives, sometimes good, sometimes bad.  This influence, in part, helps to chart our course, and eventual outcome.  You see it’s simply not the question of do you follow, but who you follow!  Pattern your lives after Kingdom minded people and you will get life changing, Kingdom purpose fulfilling results!

  1.  You Receive Teaching & Revelation

One of the forefront players within the church environment is teaching!  I believe that the Word of God is the tool for changing lives, destroying the work of Satan, releasing the finished work of Christ, and empowering God’s people.  Nothing of value happens in our church or our lives that does not flow out of the Word of God!   Revelation, Wisdom, and Impartation are the three sisters of teaching.  Where the Word of God is freshly taught, this is the outcome in the lives of people, Revelation, Wisdom, and Impartation.

  1.  You Will Be Sustained

The scriptures teach us that Jesus Christ, is the author and finisher of our faith, it says He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.  Understand that your gap in the middle from your beginning to your end is found in Him also.  How can we even for a minute think we can sustain ourselves spiritually outside of the plan that He has for our spiritual growth?  Think on this with me, nearly every Christian I know accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior, either in a local church, or through and extension ministry or minister of a local church.  Folks, if that’s where we began, and the Body and Bride of Christ is what Jesus is returning for, then how can we even for a minute think that we should be somewhere else?

  1.  You Will Fulfill Your Kingdom Purpose

Multiplied times over, the scriptures teach us that the gifts God places in our lives [natural, physical, supernatural, spiritual] are intended for use and growth within and through the context of our local church body.  You will find yourself frustrated and confused if you try to live out the life of a Believer in Christ outside of the regular fellowship of a local church body.

Psalms 1 speaks of being planted, and I believe we need to take that idea to heart when it comes to the local church.  Too many don’t view their part in the church as important and that is un-scriptural, too many bounce from church to church, planting themselves and then many times ripping themselves out of that soil to go to a greener pasture.  There is no perfect church, but I have come to understand that if we will just choose, and continue to choose, to plant ourselves in a local church God will cause us to bear such great fruit!

If you don’t have a home church find a Bible teaching church this Sunday!  If you do, I implore you, plant yourself and let your roots run deep!  God is just waiting to bless you – in fact, it’s His plan for your life!
